HCG stands for the hormone Human Choriogonadotropin  which is the hormone produced by pregnant  women during their early stages. It is said that as part of a weight loss program, the hormone’s fat-mobilization aspects facilitate weight loss.

It is administered by injection to a dieter who would want rapid weight loss. The injection is done daily that lasts for three weeks and must be monitored by a health professional.

For it to work, the hormone is used in conjunction with a very low calorie diet.  However, those who have taken hcg shots for weight loss have experienced certain side effects such as blood clots, depression, headaches and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in women.

The disadvantage of this program though is that it really has no scientific  evidence to prove it can promote weight loss. Weight loss too is only temporary and not long term. It is also not considered safe so that many health and medical professionals do not recommend this type of diet program.
