Created by raw foodist, nutritionist, personal trainer, motivational speaker and kinesiologist Yuri Elkaim, this diet asserts a dieter can lose weight while eliminating health ailments, increasing energy and improving overall wellness. It is a diet plan based on eating raw foods that are uncooked or cooked below 180 degrees preserving the living elements in the food. Some benefits of the program include increased work productivity, high energy level, healthy and long-term weight loss, reduced risk of illnesses and disease.
Included in the book is a Food Spectrum or a rating system for food groups. Based on the spectrum green vegetables are the best, being rich in calcium, nutrionally dense and has an alkalizing effect on the body. The mid level of spectrum includes foods and vegetables and healthy fats. The next level includes grains and legumes and the last level is called Leisure Foods. The Leisure Foods are consumed in moderation and allowed in the program.
Eating for Energy includes a recipe section, a 12-wk meal plan and a list of 12 super foods plus food combining principles to follow. Another section for athlete’s nutrition is given being that the author of the program is a soccer coach.
Exercise is also necessary. However, the rigid style of eating and meal preparation can be arduous for those looking for longterm maintenance.
